JUKI Corporation is currently one of the global manufacturers of surface mount technology (SMT) equipment and industrial sewing machine parts. It has developed and manufactured surface mount machines and electronic mechanical instruments, as well as precision mechanical components for industrial use. The overseas subsidiary in China is Shanghai Heavy Machinery. Sales of surface mount machines began in July 1987, and in November 1994, Tokyo Heavy Machinery International Trade (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was established to start selling SMT machines. In January 2001, Heavy Machinery (China) Investment Co., Ltd. was established, introducing for the first time in the industry a modular approach to establish production lines by connecting multiple devices. This modular approach has now been widely adopted in the SMT industry.
